It’s always a great compliment when you’re asked to photograph a wedding. Especially if the couple were guests at a wedding where they saw me at work and loved my photographs.
This is exactly what happened with Judit and Rob. They were guests at Emma and Jack’s wedding at Chiddingfold Ramster Hall in Surrey and they said they liked their pictures so much they wanted me to be their wedding photographer too.
So that’s how I found myself on a cold morning in London at the Novotel in Greenwich taking shots of Judit getting ready for her big day. I was pleased to get some really nice shots of Judit and her five bridesmaids. The couple had asked for informal photographs, but I did take the opportunity to take a couple of formal pictures of Judit sitting in a leather chair. It showed off her gorgeous wedding gown and veil and the beautiful flowers in the bouquet.
The wedding took place at St Etheldreda’s Church in Ely. It dates back to the middle ages and it is the oldest Catholic church in England. Actually, this wasn’t my first wedding in St Etheldreda’s Church, so I knew that as well as being light and airy it had some very detailed stained-glass windows which would make a lovely backdrop for Judit and Rob.
There was a very important guest at this wedding. He was the ring-bearer, but not only that he was Judit’s and Rob’s son. He looked very handsome in his grey suit. I like this picture because as I said, it was a chilly and rainy day and I think this photograph says it all.
Rob arrived at the church with his groomsmen, the bridesmaids and the rest of the guests in a London Routemaster. Meanwhile, Judit arrived in a white vintage car and you can see from the photograph of her that she looked radiant.
The wedding ceremony was moving, but with smiles and laughter. The ring-bearer got a big hug from his mum afterwards. I then got busy taking some pictures of the couple using those amazing windows as a backdrop. They really add some drama.
After that, it was time for everyone to board the Routemaster for a scenic tour of some of London’s most important sights. This gave me the chance to take some wedding pictures outside St Paul’s Cathedral. Although it was raining, we managed to find a dry spot and I got some romantic pictures of them both.
The reception took place at the Stationers’ Hall in London EC4. There were cocktails and 4pm and dinner was served at 5pm. There were speeches during the meal, which ended with the cutting of the cake. I don’t know what Rob had said to Judit, but I love the photo of her laughing heartily.
As always, I had a great day and it was a pleasure photographing Judit and Rob and their friends and family. I hope that treasured memories of their day will come flooding back to them when they look at their wedding album in the future.
