Photographs by Photo Albert Wedding Photographer Egham and Surrey
One of the things I love about being a wedding photographer is the opportunity to travel to different locations and face the challenges that each venue brings from a photographers perspective. We often have to deal with bad weather, low lighting, cold or hot temperatures and shy guests. But, I take it in my stride, deal with any problems cheerfully and do my best to make the guests feel comfortable being photographed.
Luckily, at Joanna and Phil’s wedding in April, the weather was fine and the guests were happy and friendly. The wedding took place in the magnificent church of St Etheldreda in Ely, London. It is the oldest catholic church in England and it has long, rich history going back to the Middle Ages.
The church is very light and airy. It has stained glass windows along the side and to the west of the building, they all tell a different story from the Church’s history. At the beginning of the ceremony, Joanne walked down the aisle with her father with music from the pipe organist and the church choir. The windows in the background really added a sense of opulence and the photos show that all eyes are on Joanne as she walks towards Phil.
After the ceremony, I went to St Paul’s Cathedral with Joanne and Phil, it’s just a few minutes walk away. I have taken photographs there before and I know it provides a great backdrop for wedding pictures. While we were outside I made the most of the space to show off Joanne’s beautiful veil as well her stunning dress, which came from The Bridal Gallery in London. Those pictures of Joanne and Phil alone, really capture the love and friendship between them.
When we had finished at St. Paul’s, it was time to meet the guests at the reception. It was held in St. Etheldreda’s church crypt, which was lit by candles and created a warm, fairy-tale glow, which I needed to capture. It was very important to make sure the flash photography reflected the atmosphere and didn’t give harsh images.
Luckily, I have a lot of knowledge about lighting and the way it affects a photograph. I was able to make the most of my skills to produce pictures that kept the warm, happy atmosphere while keeping the images sharp. The reception guests included Joanne and Phil’s beautiful daughter, who is just 15 months old. She obviously loves the camera, as you can in the photograph of her in Joanna’s arms.
The crypt was beautifully decorated with the addition of a grand piano, which was there so that Phil could perform a song for Joanne, accompanied by one of his friends on saxophone. Later on, in the evening there was a performance by Tim Wheater and Cherub, who use high-frequency sound to ease tension and present a relaxing, soothing sound.
It was a lovely day and I hope Joanne and Phil will treasure their photographs for many, many more years to come.
